Lifestyle & behaviour change

Change is hard. We’ve all had to make changes at some point in our lives. Maybe a new job required you to wake up earlier, or a health condition required you to cut out sugar. While some changes are easy, others can leave us feeling stuck, frustrated, and disappointed when nothing we try results in a sustained habit change.

Sometimes change can feel so overwhelming that we don’t even know where to start.

Change can also be a bumpy road filled with setbacks and habit relapse (going back to our “old ways”). It can feel like we’re taking one step forward and two steps back. Trouble making and maintaining changes can also trigger some anxiety and depression, leaving us feeling stressed and hopeless.

Counselling can help you (or your child) successfully make changes in your life in several ways. It can help you determine what challenges or barriers are getting in the way of this change and create a plan to overcome them. Counselling can teach you coping skills and help you learn to accept relapse as part of the change process. Lastly, it can also teach you to set attainable goals and support you in taking small, manageable steps to reaching those goals.
