Anxiety counselling for teens and young adults
Anxiety can appear in many different ways. Whether it’s worries and ruminating thoughts, sensations in the body such as nausea or tension, or trouble relaxing, counselling can be helpful for you (or your child).
Anxiety is like a tiny protector in our minds. There are many situations in life where anxiety is a useful tool to keep us safe. For example, if we weren’t a little bit worried about an exam, we probably wouldn’t study at all. However, sometimes our protector takes things too far and becomes unhelpful.
Anxiety has sneaky ways of impacting our everyday lives. Perhaps anxiety has prevented you from trying new things, such as spending the night away from home or taking a new gym class. Maybe anxiety has squashed some of your self-esteem and convinced you that you’re not good enough or smart enough. Or maybe anxiety has you worried that the worst is going to happen.
With anxiety counselling, we’ll get to the root of those worries, develop coping skills, and take small steps towards changing the narrative of your protector (anxiety).
